(LAUDERDALE LAKES, Florida) — The City of Lauderdale Lakes received the Government Finance Officers Association GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the third consecutive year!

During the June 23,2015 Commission meeting, the City’s Finance Director, Marie Elianor and her jubilant staff accepted the GFOA’s award for their tireless work on the City’s 2015 budget. Elianor worked closely with former Budget Analyst, Sharee Haynes-Dyer and other Finance Department staff to provide a precise and efficient 2015 budget that followed the GFOA’s guidelines. Elianor said,” the award represents the steadfast progress that the City of Lauderdale Lakes has made and I am extremely proud of the Finance Department’s efforts and dedication.” “This award is a significant achievement for this department and the City as a whole.”

According to the GFOA, this award reflects the commitment of the City and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the GFOA Award, Lauderdale Lakes had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentations. Guidelines designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serve as a policy document, a financial plan, a guide for operations, and a communications device. In order to receive the award, the budget documents must be rated proficient in all four of the categories as well as the fourteen mandatory criteria within those four categories.

For three years , the Finance Department of the City of Lauderdale Lakes have excelled in this task and should be extremely proud to hold this record. “I couldn’t be happier to witness the Finance Department be awarded for such an auspicious award,” said Mayor Barrington Russell. “Their efforts are greatly appreciated and should definitely be noted.”

For budgets beginning in 2013, 1424 participants received and the awardees have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and have provided an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
