Press Release - Hastings Legacy

The City of Lauderdale Lakes honors the legacy of U.S. Congressman Alcee L. Hastings by renaming a portion of NW 36th Street and NW 43rd Avenue to Alcee L. Hastings Parkway. During the First Reading of Ordinance 2021-004 on March 23, 2021, the Lauderdale Lakes City Commission unanimously approved the renaming to Alcee L. Hastings Parkway. The second reading is scheduled for April 13, 2021 during the City Commission Meeting. 

 As the representative for the City Lauderdale Lakes, U.S. Congressman Hastings was a pioneer who fiercely advocated for the residents since 1993. He supported the economic vitality of the City and its cultural exchange through the annual UNIFEST event. He also advanced the agenda for the area schools and local organizations. Congressman Hastings has earned the respect and affection of the community throughout his 32 tireless years of public service.

 The legacy of Congressman Alcee Hastings will live on and Alcee Hastings Parkway is a tribute to honor him. 

U.S. Congressman Hastings passed away on April 6, 2021 after battling pancreatic cancer. The City mourns the loss of this icon and extends condolences to Congressman Alcee Hastings’ wife, Patricia, his family, friends and staff.
