Lauderdale Lakes Financial Services Department Honored
(LAUDERDALE LAKES, Florida April 8th, 2014) The City of Lauderdale Lakes Finance Department received the highest form of recognition in government budgeting for its FY2013 budget document for the second year in a row. Last month the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) presented the City with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award after the City presented impeccable data to meet the guidelines for the effective budget presentation.
Lauderdale Lakes is among the 1340 entities across the nation expected to receive the prestigious award. These recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. Mayor Barrington Russell said, “We are so proud of our financial achievements over the past 3 years! This recognition is a clear indication the City is heading in the right direction.”
The award represents a significant achievement by the City of Lauderdale Lakes. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:
• a policy document
• a financial plan
• an operations guide
• a communications device
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving over 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. The purpose of the GFOA is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by raising public awareness of sound financial policy and practice. They do this by being a leading source of information in public financial management from research, practice and policy development and information distribution. They improve the expertise and professionalism of financial managers and leaders and provide recognition for their achievements.
“The City’s Financial Services Department has worked extremely hard to regain the confidence of our residents,” said Jonathan Allen, Lauderdale Lakes City Manager, “I am extremely proud to have talented and dedicated staff in Financial Services. Kudos to the entire Financial Services Department under the leadership of Marie Elianor. I would also like to say congratulations to the Mayor and City Commission, and the entire City workforce for a job well done.”
According to the City’s Manager, a formal public presentation is forthcoming.
