[ARCHIVED] Moment of Reflection

MomentOfReflection

Greetings,

In the midst of this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I find the need to acknowledge and help mitigate the current civil unrest happening throughout this great nation.  The remedy to decades of racial inequities and challenges to persons of color when interacting with law enforcement is as real as it gets.

I am encouraged by the activities being coordinated by various groups to encourage conversation and advance solutions.  Therefore, I call upon you to bring some light to the matter and recognize the victims in this unending saga.

On Thursday, June 18th at 8 pm, please join me as we take a moment to come together (wherever you are) and pause for 8minutes, 46 seconds in acknowledgment and recognition of the many lives subjected to police brutality and mistreatment.  My commitment to you and this community is to foster a positive relationship with our law enforcement partners in order to move forward together.

In the coming days, I ask that you or your designee collect 20 candles from City Hall so that they can be simultaneously lit on June 18, 2020, at 8 pm.  I will be sharing more plans to help close the gap between law enforcement and our “We Care” city.

Sincerely,

Hazelle Rogers

Mayor
