LAUDERDALE LAKES: The City of Lauderdale Lakes presented its State of the City Address and celebrated its 58th year anniversary of incorporation in grand style on Friday, June 21, 2019.
Mayor Hazelle Rogers was joined by her colleagues for the annual State of the City Address where Hot 105 radio personality, Rodney Baltimore, served as the Master of Ceremony. The theme Celebrating Success but not Complacent was indicative of the city’s vision and mission of providing ‘Innovative and Excellent Municipal Services in an Effective and Efficient Manner’. “With our growing population and increased activities, we are achieving more with less under the guidance of City Manager, Phil Alleyne,” said Mayor Rogers.
The Mayor recognized the diverse Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) executive team, which increased the presence of people of color and minorities from 25% to 75%. She addressed unfunded mandates that will continue to impact the city’s budget. The night was filled with informative reports about capital improvement projects, economic development growth, positive turns in community development and, most importantly, a balanced $52.2 million dollar budget. The ovation was jubilant throughout the address as the Mayor went through the list of items that the city’s residents queried during her various visits to associations and city town hall meetings.
The Mayor pointed out one of the city’s major achievements in the highlight of the evening: the repayment of an $821,000 BSO Police and BSO Fire debt nine months in advance. “Transparency and commitment to excellence and effective use of resources is what we do best,” said Mayor Rogers.
Madam Mayor then touched on the vision for years to come; she declared that the foundation has been set for continued success in the “We Care” City of Lauderdale Lakes. In addition, the importance of continued engagement of residents, especially in the upcoming 2020 census, was paramount. The absence of participation will negatively affect funding, redistricting and other necessary resources in our city and county for the next 10 years.
