About Commissioner Tycie Causwell

William Shakespeare said ''Parting is such sweet sorrow." How true! I still remember how difficult it was to leave a life that I had lived for nearly forty years, a career of teaching for 22 years that I loved, friends and family members to settle in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida in 1983. My daughter has special needs and as a mother I had to give her a chance to thrive, hence, my decision to relocate to the USA, a decision that I am still proud of.

I am a graduate of Bethlehem College with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts from University of the West Indies in Jamaica. I have three adult children and a charming grandson.

In 1987 I was encouraged to join the East Gate Homeowners Association by Hazelle Rogers, then Secretary of the Association. I Served as president for 4 years, established the East Gate Homeowners Scholarship for high school students.  I am a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and have been since 1993. I spearhead the Redeemer Lutheran Food Pantry that just celebrated 23 years of providing food to families suffering from food insecurity. At present I am the Chair of the Lauderdale Lakes Historic Preservation Board. In 2012 the board established the Samuel S Brown Room in honor of our first black mayor in Broward County. I have been involved with the Friends Broward County Library, Lauderdale Lakes since 2010, where I have received several awards. In 2007 I was given the Community  Builders Award from the Caribbean  American  Democratic  Club of Broward  County for my involvement  with the continued  growth of the club, and for many years I was a Committee  Precinct Captain  for the Broward County Democratic Club.

I look forward to continue serving in my City of Lauderdale Lakes that I dearly love!
