LAUDERDALE LAKES - During a Special Meeting held in the City Hall Chamber on Monday, October 5, 2015, the Mayor and City Commission voted unanimously to move to the floor and approve the motion to officially accept terms of a contractual agreement making Kelvin L. Baker, Sr. the City Manager of the of Lauderdale Lakes. Baker was sworn in as the new City Manager by City Clerk, Sharon Houslin.
During a Special Meeting held in the City Hall Chamber on Monday, September 28, 2015, the Mayor and City Commission, according to a rating scale system, revealed that Kelvin L. Baker, Sr. acquired the top number of points, making him the next City Manager of the City of Lauderdale Lakes contingent upon contract negotiations. Commissioner Gloria Lewis made a motion to appoint Baker as the Interim City Manager immediately while the contract negotiations took place at a previous Special meeting where the Mayor and Commission conducted interviews for Baker and two other candidates. His Interim managerial duties started on October 1.
“I believe that we made a great decision to hire Mr. Baker,” Said Mayor Barrington Russell. “He has been received very well by staff and the residents and I can hardly wait to get started with our new vision for the City.”
Kelvin, has 25 years of governmental experience. He has served in different capacities at other municipalities in the tri-county area where he has implemented very significant programs and taken part in innovative projects that have set the bar for many surrounding organizations. He prides himself in his ability to get the job done. “I like to call myself the 21st Century City Manager,” said new City Manager Kelvin Baker. “The City of Lauderdale Lakes is looking to move their City forward and I am extremely proud to have been chosen to assist with this positive movement.”
