City of Lauderdale Lakes Coronavirus Update
“By virtue of the authority granted to me as set forth in section 252.34 of the Florida Statues, Mayor Hazelle Rogers has declared the State of Emergency for the City due to the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). “I encourage the Lauderdale Lakes community to take all necessary precautions to mitigate the spread of COV-19 virus. I am proud to say that the City Commission and Administration have taken several proactive steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public. The City is keenly aware of our senior population and we are working closely with our partnering agencies to ensure that our most vulnerable population is protected”. Proclaims Hazelle Rogers, Mayor of the City of Lauderdale Lakes made on March 13, 2020.

Mayor Rogers also stated that “the business community is being encouraged to join the city in taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
There is currently no vaccine to prevent Coronavirus (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyday precautionary actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay at home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and warm water if hands are visibly dirty.
• Follow the CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask. CDC does not recommend that people who are well wearing a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19. o Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
