LAUDERDALE LAKES: The City of Lauderdale Lakes, led by Commissioner Marilyn Davis, hosted a massive Career Fair on June 20th, 2019.Commissioner Marilyn Davis opened the doors to a Career Fair for the residents of Lauderdale Lakes. To gather big and small companies looking for great employees to take part in this Career Fair, Commissioner Davis worked with, Lauderdale Lakes’ CRA Economic Development Manager, Vielka Buchanan, radio personality, Big Man Kelly and Economic Development Advisory Board Chairperson, Nethel Stephens. The collaboration produced a diverse list of employers.
Tables lined the walls of the event venue on the second floor of the Lauderdale Lakes area Library. Companies included JetBlue Airlines, Broward Sheriff’s Office, City of Lauderdale Lakes, OIC of Broward County, Career Source of Broward, Westway Towing, U.S. Census2020, Broward Health North, City of Fort Lauderdale, and many more. The Fair boasted careers for all areas of work experience; fresh start, upward movement, and even second chance opportunities were available. Hundreds of candidates attended the fair. The day started off with a resume clinic for the new to the work force residents. Commissioner Marilyn Davis said, “One of the most important things we can do for our community is to provide economic development. Having a good job, career and livelihood benefits the individual, their families, their churches and their community. Lauderdale Lakes is the "We Care" City and this is one example of showing how we care about our citizens and our community.
The Fair was such a success that Commissioner Davis has already began laying the ground work for future fairs with more companies. Big Man Kelly said, “I think the event was highly successful. During my conversation with Lauderhill’s Commissioner Margaret Bates we discussed how important the career fairs is in high need and I certainly agree with her. I was very happy to see the diverse age groups in the building as well. The range from fresh out of high school to those looking to change careers were in attendance. This fact is a clear indication that the residents in Lauderdale Lakes and the Broward County area are in need of employment making these events a necessity in our Communities and we are looking forward to hosting similar networking opportunities in the months to come.”
