The 2018/2019 School Year Started With Success In Lauderdale Lakes

Press. 1st day of school success 2018 2019 year

LAUDERDALE LAKES: (LAUDERDALE LAKES, Florida) —   The new school year in Lauderdale Lakes began earlier than usual with the first day of school for the 2018/19 school year being Wednesday, August 15, 2018. School also started midweek -a change in Broward County Public Schools traditional Monday start day.  Lauderdale Lakes Schools were filled with excited bright faces of children as they lined the walkways and halls that were safeguarded with safety officers for heightened security. Mayor Hazelle Rogers, Vice Mayor Beverly Williams, and City Manager Phil Alleyne visited our schools to show their support to the faculty, and more importantly, the Lauderdale Lakes children and their families.

Schools and their security has been the focal point for Broward County School Board since the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in February of this year.  After a summer recruiting training and hiring school safety officers and adding new fences, gates, alarms and security cameras, Broward schools still face an abundance of security issues as the school year begins. Students will notice an increased security presence on many campuses. The City of Lauderdale Lakes has been on board with ensuring the schools in our neighborhood are safe and our children feel safe while attending. Mayor Rogers said, “We started our day at Lauderdale Lakes Middle. It appeared to be a happy first day of new and awesome experiences today.  We look forward to that same awesomeness throughout the school year. Our schools are secure and ready.”

On the first day of school, students and parents were made aware of some changes in school access points with only one way to get in, usually through the main office.  We are looking forward to an awesome school year, filled with awesome memories and learning.
