LAUDERDALE LAKES: (LAUDERDALE LAKES, Florida) — The City of Lauderdale Lakes partnered with American Red Cross and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to host a Smoke Alarm Installation Event—Operation S.A.F.E. (Surviving a Fire Emergency) on March 17, 2018. The event was a huge success!
Red Cross volunteers and BSO Fire Rescue personnel and the City’s Public Works department assisted residents in installing Smoke Alarms in their homes beginning at 9AM. The deployment station was located at the City Hall of Lauderdale Lakes, located at 4300 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes, FL. The installations went until 1pm with 177 alarms being installed.
Statistics show that 3 out of 5 home fire deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms. Properly installed and tested smoke alarms have been saving lives for more than 30 years. The City of Lauderdale Lakes recognize the significance in having smoke alarms and being prepared for these type emergencies and sought out ways to encourage and support the community is educating and preparing themselves to help prevent such tragedies. “I am so proud of our City for recognizing the need and partnering with Red Cross and Broward Sheriff’s Office to get this done for our community,” said Commissioner Veronica Edwards Phillips. “We are really making strides in connecting our community, one good deed at a time. Our City, Our Story!”
