Mayor and Commission Pass Seating Resolution on the Eve of Another Rogue Resident Shooting
LAUDERDALE LAKES: Mayor Rogers and the City Commission passed a resolution(reso. 2017-70) which establishes rules and procedures with regard to providing reserved seating for city staff, designated providers and special guests on the eve of yet, another senseless attack on a government official.
Mayor Hazelle Rogers said, “In light of another shooting that occurred during a practice for the congressional republican/democratic baseball game, this resolution is necessary to have another way to help secure the Commission Chamber when governing in a public setting. When people know what is expected of them or what to expect from others, you find more comfort in attending meetings and community events. Abnormal behavior can be detected at a quicker rate.”
Section B of the Resolution 2017-70 states “Any room or other area designated as “Closed,” “Private,” “Not Open To The Public,” or a similar limitation, appropriately posted, shall be deemed closed to the general public”. This will now allow staff to control areas better; understanding that the boundaries have been set and they can refer to an actual rule that gives reason for denial of access to certain areas. They will also pay more attention to the areas, knowing who is authorized to be in the area.
Since being elected, the Mayor and the Commission has come together to form a Dias that is based on respect, dedication and sincere concern for the community in which they represent. The Dias has set proper protocols for themselves as well as the staff. “I give credit to the Commissioners for looking towards a secure future and voting unanimously to implement Resolution 2017-70,” Said Mayor Rogers. “I believe it is extremely important to set rules and boundaries in place so that you have a more secure and established organization.
